A New Outlook On Life

I'm sure we've all been there before, in a rut through life, not knowing who we are. Days and nights flow and enlightenment never visits, yet we yearn for it. The truth of the matter is that enlightenment never happens because we are afraid of it and afraid of the repercussions.

My nightmare is my relationship. My girlfriend and I sit in silence most of the time, not knowing what to say to each other nor knowing what to do with each other. It has been like this for months now. Most would break up, but we're determined to stay together; although I don't see the point in staying together but she does. I'm afraid. Afraid of what I might feel if and when we do break up. Afraid of reaching out to her and her not being there. Ultimately, I'm afraid of myself. Enlightenment has yet to visit me and I'm yearning for it.

  1. Sounds rough dude, but you'll get through it. Just sit back and think about all the things about her you like. If you can't think of any, maybe it's time to end it

  4. Sometimes I feel the same way man, but obviously you came together in the first place for a mutual reason, so keep working at it. Communication is key.

  7. Fear of being single is common, i see it a lot. Typically those people "overlap" relationships or have back-up partners. Be careful bro. Your GF sounds like the type who will try to line up a new BF before she lets you go.

  11. Try doing new things together. Or doing things away from each other, and then telling each other about them.
A piece of advice I've always found helpful is if you're not interesting, you won't be able to find your relationship interesting. You have to be able to continue doing interesting things so that you have something to bring to the relationship.
If all else fails, start over.

  15. I can really relate to what you wrote, I'll just say, if you don't see the point in it the sooner you do it the better. It's gonna hurt like a motherfucker at first, but life always takes a turn for the better if you do the right thing.

  18. It might not be you or your girlfriend, or you and your girlfriend as a couple - it might be your surrondings. Whens the last time you both took a holiday together? go have fun somewhere and bring in new things to talk about in your life. could help :)

  20. I hope things get better for you, but at some point you will have to do what is best for you. If she really cares she will understand, but if you do nothing you are hurting both yourself and her in making her believe there is something between you, when that just isn't there anymore...

  22. I can't believe I'm about to ask, but does the silence bother you? I actually enjoy that a lot about my girlfriend. Just being able to sit in silence next to each other is quite comforting. We probably on average only speak about an hour a even though we are with each other 12 or so hours, but we are always next to each other for the most part. Maybe your relationship is just reaching that point?

Although if not, maybe you should have a talk about it. Do you know everything about each other? Maybe you should plan a weekend where you just drive until you don't want to anymore and go find something fun to do where you end up. Works for me.
